 What is Hope Cottage about: Hope Cottage Tamworth will be the first ‘Farm Stay Retreat’ of its kind in Australia. We will provide a free accommodation facility providing families and parents/guardians with a relaxing, positive, comfortable and secure "home away from home" to escape to during and after treatment/illness.At Hope Cottage, Families can relax, regroup and have some much needed fun and receive support from staff, volunteers and other Families who are sharing similar experiences. How did Hope Cottage come about? March 20th 2004, Chaianne Ramage was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia M5, within days of her diagnosis and after starting her chemotherapy protocol, Chaianne suffered countless intracerebral bleeds (brain bleeds) and was placed on life support in ICU at the Sydney Children’s Hospital.Chaianne made a remarkable recovery from the bleeds and was in remission from the leukaemia and after months of gruelling chemotherapy, Chaianne underwent a bone marrow transplant on the 9th July 2004. Chaianne is still going strong to this day! After Chaianne and her mother, Thera, returned home from hospital, they wanted to do something positive with their experience and thought very hard on what they could do for the Families still going through what they did and still were……. Hope Cottage was born! Hope Cottage is something that Chaianne also believes in and is working to support and she is an integral part of our team. Chaianne is always coming up with thoughts and plans for the Children who will be staying at Hope Cottage. Chaianne’s mother, Thera, set up the Chaianne Ramage Foundation Inc. in honour of her beautiful and brave Daughter and it is the Chaianne Ramage Foundation that raises the funds to build Hope Cottage. A home away from home Each family will have their own fully self contained cottage. Each cottage will have everything that they need, right down to the swing set, BBQ and slippery dip out the back yard! Our volunteers will deliver fresh fruit and vegetables, fresh home made cakes, muffins etc, twice a week. Our Families will be cared for to ensure their stay is a relaxing and enjoyable one.Hope Cottage will be a special place where families can share time together, have a rest from the treatments, hospital and the daily routine of caring for a child in an hospital environment. Most importantly, our Families can draw strength and support from other Families in similar circumstances. Where do our families come from?
